Department of Plant Production Ecology

We are looking for an experienced researcher in autecology/population dynamics

About the job

The researcher will work within a project aimed at investigating the risks of the propagation of troublesome plant species when spreading digestate from biogas production. Studies will be conducted on the effects of temperature and exposure time on the reproductive parts of troublesome plant species with the aim of improving weed control in practical cultivation. The work involves studies in the lab and field, using statistical methods and writing scientific and popular science articles. The researcher will collaborate with researchers in Sweden and internationally as well as with various stakeholders outside the university, such as industry organizations, advisors, and farmers.

Your background

Requirements:

  • PhD in ecological botany, biology, or related field
  • Excellent knowledge of plant biology, particularly regarding the occurrence, life cycle, and population dynamics of weed species and invasive species
  • Documented experience in similar research
  • Documented experience in planning and conducting experiments, coordinating data collection, processing and analyzing, interpreting experimental data, and publishing results in scientific and popular science articles
  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication in Swedish and English
  • Well-developed network with researchers in Sweden and internationally as well as with various stakeholders outside the university, such as industry organizations, advisors, and farmers

Meritorious (desirable):

  • Docent in biology or equivalent
  • Documented experience in conveying relevant information to the agricultural sector
  • Documented experience in writing high-quality grant applications and obtaining project funding from various funding bodies
  • Experience in supervision at all educational levels

The Department of Plant Production Ecology, together with the Department of Ecology, forms an inspiring research environment at the Ecology Center in Uppsala. The Department of Plant Production Ecology is a leading research environment in sustainable plant production. We educate and conduct research on plants for food, feed, and energy. The research has a strong sustainability-oriented character, where we investigate how different cultivation systems and production methods affect both the environment and food production. The research examines how different production methods, cultivation environments, and systems affect yield and other ecosystem services, as well as product quality and the surrounding environment.
